Adressen maken mensen en bedrijven vindbaar. Dat geldt niet alleen in fysieke wereld. Ook in de virtuele wereld van het internet moet een organisatie of informatie snel te vinden zijn. De digitale NAW-gegevens zijn vastgelegd in een domeinnaam. In het begin waren de domeinnamen nog gebaseerd op IP-nummers.
Dat is niet zo praktisch omdat gebruikers deze cijfercombinaties maar moeilijk kunnen onthouden. Om het onthouden van webadressen gemakkelijker te maken, is het Domain Name System (DNS) ontwikkeld. Dit systeem vertaalt IP-adressen naar domeinnamen en omgekeerd. De IP-adressen worden zo alleen op de achtergrond gebruikt. Dat betekent dat bezoekers die uw website willen bezoeken niet 83.172.130.98 in de browserregel typen, maar gewoon: www.eigendomein.nl.

Waarschuwing
Vaak zien wij zogenaamde collega hostingproviders stunten met dumpprijzen. Helaas blijkt (vaak) achteraf pas, waarom de door hun aangeboden hosting zo goedkoop is. Veelal staan de webservers in de Verenigde Staten, waar men inderdaad goedkoop kan hosten, al wordt het verschil vandaag de dag een stuk minder.
Doordat deze webservers in de Verenigde Staten staan, in plaats van Nederland, heeft dit een negatieve werking op de toegankelijkheid en toegangstijden van uw website. Om nog maar te zwijgen over onderhouds tijdstippen van servers, die veelal overdag op Nederlandse tijden plaatsvinden, dit alles vanwege het tijdverschil met Amerika.
Bij Eigendomein heeft u de garantie dat u hostingpakket op een Nederlandse webserver komt te staan en daarmee de beste en snelste toeganstijden en laadsnelheden heeft voor uw website. Eigendomein doet er alles aan om onderhoudswerkzaamheden in de nachtelijke uren te doen, indien dit nodig is.
